Kelly a concert promoter or a Mayor?

Halifax won't be hosting a major summer concert on the Halifax Commons in 2007 due to the fact that Halifax was competing against itself for the same major talent.

That's how Deputy Mayor Sue Uteck explained it during her appearance on the Hotline in August, 2007. Kelly was the promoter competing against Events Halifax! the official agent tasked with booking entertainment events for Halifax.

Uteck also revealed that Peter Kelly went to Events Halifax! with hat in hand after realizing he needed financial backing to secure a financial guarantee for talent. Events Halifax! turned down Kelly's request for financial security based on their policy not to put taxpayers money at risk.

Events Halifax! works with promoters that take all risks. Mayor Kelly's first hard learned lesson probably came as a shocking surprise.

Events Halifax! brought the Rolling Stones to Halifax in 2006.
