Mayor Peter Kelly is probably the best thing that has ever happened to the city of Halifax. All politicians, caught up in the media spotlight, have their heads turned one way or the other. They really don't understand the true import of all they must do until they are actually in the "hot seat". Peter Kelly has been true to his many campaign promises/suggestions, however, the taxpayers and the other politicians sometimes create problems for the politician who holds "the seat" so that some minor adjustments have to be made in order to fulfill most of the campaign promises. The other politicians then trash, along with the help of the media, the politician "of choice". Only the smart taxpayers and voters will ignore the lies and the inuendos and stay true to the politician that they voted in. The media is a great way to sway anyone's decision-making thoughts but if you believe anything and everything you read then you might as well stay in your house and don't come outside because your decision never meant anything to you in the first place. By constantly changing politicians nothing ever gets done and the cost is ridiculous. It takes time and money to put into action the promises that are on the election platform. If taxpayers and voters would only give Peter Kelly the time that seems to be eaten up by senseless media coverage and other politicians' inuendo and allow him to do his job, then this site wouldn't even exist.

Hey Sheila....I'll be in touch to help with your campain. Also, I'll help anyone run that wants to get rid of Reg Rankin in the next election. This time instead of so many people running against him lets have a real effort to run one or two quality canditates against him to kick his but out.

He has a column now in the daily news, that must be good for exposure?
Every time Victor's column appears, it costs him votes. He is proving to be a self-centered idiot with a very scrambled mind. The column has done him irreparable harm.
Bill Black also comes to mind. He'd have a good chance for sure.
If Bill is interested, he's be excellent. I dunno if he wants to chance it though. If Ken Ozmon couldn't come close last time -- who would have been a great mayor -- you have to wonder about Bill's chances.

Hilarious post.
Whart promises has Mayor Doofus kept? To "consult"?
How much time does he need? We are nearing the end (thank god) of his second term. Are you suggesting he needs to be mayor for life in order to get things done?
Open your eyes and see why anyone but Kelly is what this city needs.

The coast magazine has been telling the citizens of Halifax for years how they should be living their lives, maybe for Mr.Shaw the time has come to run for public office and really put his ideas to the test.

Bring on Bruce he was able to dig to the truth about the games. He belives in common sense grass roots community develpoment, put the tax dallars back to the people not funding grand ideas when our familes don't have decent local services. He will keep Freddy the Freeloader and his likes out of our tax purse. He wants community policing, not like Kelly community police out doing thier job not shaking hands and kissing babies.

Neither Kyle Shaw (god help us) nor Bruce DeVenne are what we need for mayor. We need someone who can lead people with big egos, who knows how to get things done, who isn't afraid to take a stand for what they believe in, and who has a vision for what the city could be. That ain't either of them.

DeVenne took on City Hall over the games and was able to get the word out it was a rip off. He spoke for the people Uteck and Fougere just left in a huff over the games and named called. If they were leaders they would have questioned this from the get go. I googled his name he has fought for the rights of mbrs infected with Hep C, including himself. I read an article about how he help homeowers in his community. This guy seems to speak for the people and deals with the egos and has stood up to those egos and with results that the voters were seeking. Isn't that what elected officials want. He has my vote in district 20 and I know dozens upon dozens who will be voting for him when he runs.

I value the freedom of speech as do many other Canadians, while you use yours to speak against Mayor Peter Kelly, I will use mine to say this, go complain to someone who cares, because in my opinion Peter Kelly is a great mayor, and in your opinion he isn't, well tough luck, the majority disagrees with you because, last time i checked, hes the mayor because people like him.

Devenne is a one-trick pony and while he is tenacious he isn't mayor material. His personality is not one that inspires people to rally around him. Look at the divisiveness he created around his anti-CWG campaign. Much of that was due to his style more than his message. He managed to be on the correct side of the issue and yet made no friends for his efforts. His vision seems to be one of "spend nothing on anything" and while HRM certainly needs to get a handle on spending, what they need to do is spend on things that make a difference like infrastructure instead of endless bylaws.

Oh! if only you knew a fact or two! Anyone who opposes Peter (and his principles) will know what it is like to have the whole provincial Tory machine come down on him/her like a mountain. He's the puppet, they pull the strings. That is what has gotten him elected over & over. If not for that he couldn't be elected dog-catcher.

Go complain to someone that cares? That's exactly what's happening here and it's about damn time. "hes mayor because people like him." That quote is exactly why we need to get rid of him and when you take a moment to think about it, it's a damn insult. You've just proven he isn't a leader.

Keith I just Noted other points he has already stood up on. Rally people. I was at halifax homeowners assoc meeting where he recieved a warm welcome and a unanmious support letter from the assoc against the games. A a few nights after the games died I called to congraulate him he said thanks and I asked how many calls had he had taken he said 400+ all in support and that he had their support for office. As to the pro side lead by a 15 year old high school student Scott Smith who's new main agrument for a stadium starts with it build and they will come(Pie in the Sky). Also a web group of 1700 auto invited memmbers, most not even from Canada. Give me a break. I read on the online Daily News about one pro side one edtoitorial that was fabricated about lost business. I'll take DeVenne any day. Devenne has galvainzed the homeowner and those who are trying to pay thier taxes with little in return. DeVenne has my vote for 20 or mayor. Before Fougere got my vote she has to explain that email DeVenne had on his site where she openly stated that if we got the games none of the money would stay in Halifax. There is leadership or a sell out.
