What do you think of Sheila Fougere as the next mayor of Halifax? Can she defeal Peter Kelly?

I don't think she's the silver bullet we need to topple Kelly. If she's the only candidate I will give her my full support. But it's gonna be tough.

Sheila will not win and Peter Kelly will be returned . Very simple logic . On November 9th Abuja Nigeria will win in a big way over Glasgow,Scotland and the whole affair of even mounting a bid will be shown to further wasteful top the point of peeing 9 million down the drain.
considering the shape of civic infrastructure IE the Fairview overpass having a 4 million dollars make over we are going to be looking at "leadership" that is not a cool as a stadium of large arena.

Sheila Fougere can absolutely win against Peter Kelly. She came closer then anyone in history to defeating Alexa in the last federal election. The only problem will be Bedford, they don't care how much their homebody Kelly screws up.

DAH Nigeria sits on the 6th largest reserves of oil in the world selling at 70 dollar plus a barrel and that is greater then all of Canada for reserves including the tar sands. Oil and GAS is not expensive to product in nigeria because of the locations of the deposits. Abuja has a 360 million dollar state of the art athletics stadium and many of the venues needed in place today.Nigeria is Debt free with 45 billion in foreign reserve accounts.

Sheila would be stumbling around in the dark making statements based in total ignorance if the statement about Nigeria is her Hallmark. Or what worst she would be lead down the garden path to supporting something so stupid as Halifax hosting a commonwealth games in the financial position the HRM and the Province are in.

No Sheila should really get hooked up to a new invention called the internet and try something called "Google" before to tries to fathom how Nigeria is in a better financial position to host the games then a village called Halifax.

I'm not a big fan of Fougere. She can doubletalk almost as well as PK and is a bit of a simpleton. If no one else runs I will have to vote for her but it will be under duress.

Forget Shrill Shelia,

Where's Bruce DeVenne. The man who saved this city from finacial disaster. Sheila even admitted that none of the money would stay in the city but she was behind the CWG until she saw the ship sinking. She is no better than Kelly. Maybe Jerry Blumenthal he wasn't tainted by the Games.

The thing is the canadate has to be a HRM person not like Victor who is a purly Halifax centered . The mayor has to appeal to everyone between Ecum Secum to Hubbards . The very thing that turns me off about Victor is he column centers on Downtown and South -end Halifax and no where else . Sheila Fougere probabilty would convince the people of Dartmouth and Bedford to vote for her . Victor well he might get the people from South end Halifax but I doubt very much he can pull it off anywhere else .

This gal has been my councillor since she started with HRM.
I find her an opportunist political player who plays it very safe.
She goes along with most anything staff says and comes off on the
peoples side when its too late, to make it seem she is on her peoples side.
Example: She led a group that recommended a half way house near the formum
(without citizen consultation). Once she saw it did not have citizan support,
she tried to make it seem that she was supporting the citizens.
She has participated in most, if not all secret meetings, and has nver complained.
I expect she took the same approach with the widening of Chebucto road. She also
was agressive on recommending the MidTtown tavern development, a peocess that broke
HRN's own planning rules (check the utility board ruling).
During council votes, she speaks softely, to ensure we do not know how she voted.

Having experienced her as a councillor, I see her as a poor canidate. Her strong federal liberal ties, paint her as a political flack to me. I don't like Kelly, but would vote for him ahead of this gal.

Surely we can do better, We need someone new blood in counncil. Not another joke from within.

You're misinformed.

Sheila did not lead or have any authority or even representation on the group that selected the former DND property on Young and Windsor. The entire process was directed`and completed by employees of Correctional Services of Canada and Public Works Canada.

The CSC Commissioner in charge of the project made it abundantky clear to all of the project staff that the site selection would have to go through a very open community consultation and that the facility would not be built in any location where the local residents were opposed.

Sheila carefully monitored the project and community consultation process and spoke out very clearly to the project staff in opposition to the selected site when the local residents made their feelings known.

She lost a lot of my support with that one... She clearly tried to circumvent proper process.

I would gladly see her have a chance at the mayor's seat. Sheila is passionate, bright and in tune with the citizens.

This is what worries me about her. Like many Liberals, she is a weathervane depending on which way the political wind is blowing. In that sense she is much like PK and that is the last thing the city needs -- replacing one populist with another. Being "in tune with the citizens" has meant givin in to the loudmouth special interests for far too long, which has kept Halifax from development and progress. We need someone who has a clear vision for the city and the strength to see it through.

When I read the article "New website publishes negative news about mayor" I could not believe what I was reading. For what are we going to dump Peter Kelly? Sheila "Simply Lost" Fougere, "Stuck in the South End" Uteck? Come on now folks. Lets get back to reality. These ladies simply do not have the skills to manage HRM (they are out of tune with reality) and lets remember it is the whole HRM, not just Halifax. Something Peter seems to understand. Second, we need people who understand reality and are willing to challenge those who think more can be simply done by increasing taxes to pay for this and that, which not everyone is HRM will be able to use or even can afford. We are an aging population with shrinking wallets. We need someone who can stand up to unions, etc.

So let's get real ...
