Sewage boondoggle 2007/08/24 13:03
This whole issue surrounding the sewage treatment plants and the way in which peter kelly led the charge for the wrng system pisses me off to the max.

My water bill is out of this world! I pay very little for water use, but Kelly is sucking me dry with other charges for this treatment bullshit.

How much more is it going to cost me when Kelly announces to everyone that we have to upgrade our new sewage treatment plants? HOW MUCH MORE!

He knew the plants would not meet federal regulations yet he went ahead with it anyway.

It really is time to Dump Kelly!

ASAP!

At least $100 million according to the item on this site. I think it will be more myself. But the good mayor has more important things to take care of, like his concert bash, for instance.

Well Dawn Sloane seems like a wise person really . The problem for any council in the HRM again is the debt of 278 million and the servicing of the interest on that debt.
If you don't have the money and own very large amounts then a piece meal approach is sometimes the only option. There could be more then meets the eye over the sewage issue.

What are you talking about... the Harbour Solutions Project has been being built for a few years now and the harbour should be clean by next year.

What bothers me the most is the fact that the solids they take out of the sewage is going to be used for fertlizer. It seems to me that Kelly plans to make us eat our own S***.
IMNSHO Kelly should eat S*** and die!

For those who just got off the bannana boat, HRM council, and the community councils that preceded amagamation, levied a harbour solutions surcharge on all municipal water bills back in the early 80's to raise monies for the harbour cleanup. Very shortly afterwards, the revenues from this surcharge were redirected into "general revenues" and spent on whatever the councils of the day deemed worthy.

Your statement that "the Harbour Solutions Project has been being built for a few years now" is incorrect. Work on the system started three years ago and the first treatment plant came on line late winter 2007. The other two treatment plants are due to become active some time later this year or early 2009.
